That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke... Those of the "I can't help but sin" crowd, the OSAS, Augustinian-gnostic-"born-a-sinner" folks, if you were honest with your "your gonna sin so just go on with it" doctrines then you would actually heckle and even correct Paul, the very one you claim supports your warped presuppositions, if he were to engage with you on this topic. Whenever anyone says it is possible to go on without sinning a lot of you folks get rabidly defensive and start the typical Inquisition which starts with something like "do you ever sin?" or "did you sin today?" You would most certainly correct Paul if he said this on Facebook: Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. 1 Corinthians 15:34 Paul not only said to not sin but he said you could actually carry on without sinning. Make no mistake about it, being blameless, harmless and without rebuke are all not possible if one is in sin. Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. [13] For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. [14] Do all things without murmurings and disputings: [15] That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Philippians 2:12-15 Notice that Paul also brings up the necessity of good works here as well. The same crowd of modern perverted doctrine lovers who defend the false inevitability of not being able to not sin also rage against good works. Good works are actually the fruitful product of actively not sinning. Think about how James said that not doing good when you should have was sinning. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. James 4:17 Then think about what Jesus said was the sole purpose of good works. Good works are so that others can glorify God when they see your good works. Good works are to literally bring glory to God. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 The thing is that even though Paul pointed out the obvious, that people can be blameless, throughout his writings he still did the right thing and that was he always deflected any and all glory to God in all things. This is what all believers ought to do and that is don't sin, encourage others not to sin, do good works so that others may glorify God, and then provoke others to do exactly the same. And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; [24] Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23-24 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) [24] And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Hebrews 10:23-24
