Once again, context is key…Jude 1:21-25, etc…

The nefarious comments from OSASers continue to lead many astray.

A OSASer boldly proclaimed the following statements in an obvious rhetorical fashion:

“Is God able to save you? Is He able to keep you?”

On it’s face one would be tempted perhaps to say that this sounds good. But as what seems to happen so many times, some, if not many people fail to take on the full counselof God’s word and end up getting it all wrong. They chose to float bits of scripture around and separated from any other scriptures that may counter their assumptions and then they assume that they have arrived at the truth. The fact is they have fallen extremely far from the truth.

Is God able to save you?

This is, of course, a rhetorical statement. Yes, He can save you. He provided the only means for our salvation through the blood of His only begotten Son Jesus Christ (Romans 3:23-25).

Is God able to keep you?

Yet another rhetorical statement. Of course, He can. Can you see the context of this answer? “HE CAN” but that does not mean that “HE WILL” under all circumstances.

Once again, the OSASer leaves out the important key words and his premise ends up completely out of context from what the Bible actually states. Thus, the OSASer has a false premise based off his false doctrine.

We are told in Jude 1 verse 21, to “Keep” ourselves in the love of God…

This begs the question, what if we do not do this?

Yes God absolutely can keep us from falling as it states in a verse that follows, Jude 1 verse 24, but He expects us to keep ourselves in His love as well. Without that condition met He will not keep you from falling. It’s not that He cannot but that He will not unless that condition that He set is met. You see, salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ is only for those who obey Him.

And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him Hebrews 5:9

Many people boast about having a relationship with God. OSASer’s idea of a relationship to the core is truly unidirectional whereas God’s purposed relationship with us is clearly bi-directional. They insist that God is going to bless them no matter what happens, even if sin occurs. Now not obeying God is a definitively sin and sinning is not obeying God and by being caught up in this, sinning and not obeying, is not keeping yourself in the love of God at all, is it?

If ye love me, keep my commandments. John 14:15

Here is Jude 1:21-25 for contextual reference:

Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. Jude 1:21-25

So in conclusion, It is a Biblical truth that if we do not keep ourselves in the love of God then God will not keep us from falling. Certainly He “can keep” us from falling but the condition was provided for a reason by God in His Word. This condition is reinforced as well by other scriptures:

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. Hebrews 3:12

Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. Hebrews 4:11

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:4-11

FOR IF YE DO THESE THINGS, YE SHALL NEVER FALL…!!!

Note: Someone will likely cite 2 Thessalonians 3:3 where Paul said “But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.” They will say, “see, Paul said that the Lord will keep you”. Yes, He will if…Well just look back to the previous chapter, chapter 2 in verse 15 where Paul said “Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle”. This begs to reason that if we do not stand fast and hold the traditions that we were taught then we will indeed fall. It is not that God cannot keep us but that we do not of our own free will let Him keep us.

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 1 Corinthians 10:12
