Be of good cheer!

Jesus said, "behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world". John 16:32-33 Further back in John's Gospel, in chapter 6, Jesus said some really "hard" things and many who heard these sayings turned from Jesus and "walked no more with Him" (6:66). In fact Jesus said many "hard" things during His ministry while He walked among us. His message of truth regarding our very existence and our desperate need for salvation was so divisive for many that heard it at that time that when it was time for His murder there were few if any by His side. He certainly did overcome the world but it came at a huge price. We ought to follow in His footsteps and do the same. We ought to preach the gospel and God's truth boldly and not be concerned about anything but the fact that the Lamb that was slain is more than worthy of our sacrifices! It is not until we lay absolutely everything on the altar of our Lord, forsake all, and take up our cross and follow Him with utter obedience that we can fully live as He originally created us for. It is not then can we truly be of good cheer.
