We can be good Samaritans for Jesus today!

My wife called an old friend of ours in California. He is in his mid 80's and was out walking yesterday and passed out from what he figures was dehydration.

He said that as he was laying on the ground and coming back to consciousness a lady walked by and said nothing. Then a man passed by who also did not lift a finger to help nor say an encouraging word. They would not even look at him. They walked by as if nothing was out of the norm.

He said my wife, when she called him out of the blue to see how he was doing, was literally the third person to "walk by" and, even though she is out of state, she stopped and showed more concern for him than the people that were geographically near him.

He said my wife was just like the good Samaritan.

I agree.

People are so scared for themselves today that they will not even speak words of encouragement to folks in trouble.

Our friend is very obviously a very old and man who, if you ever met him, looks like a saint and is not at all the threatening type.

Very sad, but in a lost world so focused on self, this is not at all surprising.

This is a call out to all professing believers.

Let us love others selflessly as our Lord did so for us and has called us to do.

And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise. Luke 10:25-37
