Once saved always saved is not a gospel of repentance but it is moreso a gospel of allowance to sin

I find it amazing how people continue to use partial scriptures to define their doctrines. If people applied all of scriptures such as with the doctrine of OSAS then they would see how false their doctrine truly is.

A proponent of OSAS just responded to me with the following. My response back is noted further below.

What did you do with Psalm 51? David is confessing his sins. Was he a child of God or not? Of course he was. Do you really think that Christians never sin? David did however lose the joy of his salvation (as do we) and wanted it to be restored in verse :12

I don’t think we have any idea just how sinful we are. If we could see ourselves from God’s point of view we would probably humble ourselves in shock and quickly seek repentance and realize how thankful we should be that salvation is by grace through faith. It’s a gift. We could never achieve a level of sinlessness that would earn or even keep our salvation.

By the way the seal that The Holy Spirit places on us lasts until the day of redemption. Eph 4:30.

Do we walk perfectly in God’s spirit every day. I sure do want to but I’m afraid I may fall short occasionally and thankfully my salvation is not dependent upon my walking perfectly every day. If we walked perfectly every day after salvation the Lord wouldn’t have to command us to walk in the spirit as he did in Gal. 5:16 “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”

That certainly could not be speaking of the lost because they are totally unable to walk in the spirit.

Ok, lets break this down and within proper context.

I am not the one that said Christians do not sin, God did. Sin is what breaks our bond with God. Ezekiel, Paul, Peter, John, and especially Jesus have said this much (references provided upon request…). What you or I do what this information is up to us. Anyone’s doubts regarding the fact that God can really set us free from sin and that He has the ability to keep us free from sin has absolutely no bearing on the fact that scripture clearly states that He can and will do so as long as we choose to follow and obey Him.

Obedience is an absolute requirement for any believer in the matter of salvation. This is not my opinion, but a fact given to us by the writer of Hebrews:

And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him Hebrews 5:9

As for not sinning and being able to not sin…

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:34

Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. Romans 6:8

And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 1 John 2: 3-5

Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1 John 3:6-9

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:2-5

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. Jude 1:24-25

As for David:

David said in Psalm 51 “Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me”. You skipped this in verse 11 and went straight to and only to verse 12. While he was a child of God he knew full well that he caused his own break from God’s salvation and he was literally begging for forgiveness. Psalm 51 is true repentance. Had he not done so he knew full well that the same thing that happened to Saul would happen to him if he did not repent and gain God’s forgiveness.

What I have noticed is that people who embrace OSAS will bring up only one side of David’s situation and that was God’s forgiveness, but they refuse to acknowledge the complete context of what actually occurred and what the potential outcomes could have been had there not been repentance.

Some OSAS adherents will call foul once they run into troubles with David’s story not aligning with their doctrine so then they pull the dispensationalist’s card saying that this was Old Testament and does not apply to truths under the new Covenant. The truth is, God does not change and neither does His process of forgiveness through our repentance. You were correct to bring up David’s story, you just arrived at the wrong conclusions due to being driven by your doctrinal boundaries instead of by the fulness of scripture.

As for the seal. Ephesians 4:30 does not at all state that one can never break that seal. God’s Holy Spirit does not seal sin because He is holy. Sin breaks that seal. Every scripture that speaks about a believer being able to fall or has fallen attests to the fact that Ephesians 4:30’s context is not limited to a seal that cannot broke. The text just does not say that, at all. Again, references upon request but based on our past discussions I have already given you many of those already. Your doctrine just prohibits you from taking them within context and it puts you at odds with verses such as Ephesians 4:30. I really wish you would open your eyes to see this truth.

Once one realizes how it truly is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God as David did it becomes obvious why Paul said to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. David did and so should any other Christian today who falls into sin.
