Is He able? A deeper contextual look at Jude 1:24

Absolutely He is able to keep us but even when we decide that we do not want Him to? Are we forced against our wills even when we are living in unrepentant sin even after having accepting Jesus as our Saviour and after we have borne works meet for repentance?

Here is the verse:

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, Jude 1:24

In Jude 1:24 the context is, "He is able to" but that does not imply that "He will" do so no matter what. There are conditions involved regarding this within the broader context of God's word. Even within this verse one has to add that "He will" into "He is able". This is changing God's word and believers ought to know the dangers in doing that. This doesn't just anger God but it prompts Him to remove those editors from His Book...

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. Proverbs 30:5-6

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Revelation 21:8

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. Revelation 22:21-22

This has to be taken into consideration in order to have the full context of what God was saying in Jude 1:24 and that is if you endure unto the end...you shall be saved.

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. Matthew 10:22

But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Matthew 24:13

Another point to keep in mind is a saved person can indeed fall from the living God after they have been saved, that is, unless they take heed. If they take heed to what the letter originally written to the Christian Hebrews was pleading them to do then they will not fall. Hebrews was written by a believer to other believers in order to plead to those "holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling" (see Hebrews 3:1) to not fall away from their faith and thus from God. These scriptures in no way refer to souls who were never saved in the first place as many want to insist. A saved person can indeed fall from the living God unless they take heed. Brethren in the New Testament context, especially holy brethren, cannot be talking about the Jewish non-Christians which OSAS adherents have to believe incorrectly in order to make their modern false doctrine work. This fails completely when held to the broader context of scriptures as already shown.

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. Hebrews 3:12

Falling from the living God in the context of Hebrews as a whole is a willing departure from God and back into sin.

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, [5] And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, [6] If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. Hebrews 6:4-6

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, [27] But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. Hebrews 10:26-27

The bottom line is, if you take heed and endure unto the end, you can and will be saved.

“While saved always saved” is consistent with scripture while “once saved always saved” is a lie.

Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand. [21] Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man , that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul. Ezekiel 3:20-21

If and only if we repent we will not perish. Both the Old and New Testaments agree with this.

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Luke 13:3 (and 5 again for added emphasis by Jesus...)

The struggle most people have with "while saved always saved" is through this Biblically based concept (truth) they are confronted with the severity of their sin and are thus challenged with a do or die situation, literally. In order to avoid this they instead try to over emphasis God's grace as if He somehow turns the other way when we sin after we are "saved". No, He does not turn the other way. Instead He is at war with the carnal sinful man until true repentance occurs. This is why He said to sin no more...

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Romans 8:7

So the choice is ours to make to either sin or sin not. This is possible because God not only commanded it (see further below) but He also said that with Him it is possible (Matthew 19:26, Mark 9:23, Mark 10:27, and Luke 18:27).

And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. Exodus 20:20

Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. Psalm 4:4

I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me. Psalm 39:1

Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. 1 Corinthians 15:34

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: [27] Neither give place to the devil. Ephesians 4:26-27

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. [14] For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. [15] What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. [16] Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. [7] Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. [8] He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. [9] Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1 John 3:6-9

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. [3] For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 1 John 5:2-3

We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. 1 John 5:18

Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. John 5:14

She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. John 8:11

So in conclusion, yes God will keep us, if we let Him.

The amazing thing is, even with the many specific and clear proofs given from God’s word and these being within the proper context, people are still going to desperately and angrily fight this. I was one of these for most of my life and am glad that God has allowed me to be humbled and I have repented for not taking Him at His word. That is true freedom in Christ! Without Him it is not possible but with Him it is more than possible.
