The difference between the godly and the ungodly oftentimes only takes a wicked tongue. This is a spiritual fact regarding everyone, not just women, but this will be focused on the women at this time. A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike. Proverbs 27:15 Contentious is defined by Webster's 1828 as "apt to contend; given to angry debate; quarrelsome; perverse". For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear: [23] For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress. Proverbs 30:21,23 Disquieted, is defined by Webster's 1828 as "made uneasy or restless; disturbed; harassed". Odious, as defined by Webster's 1828, is: 1. Hateful; deserving hatred. It expresses something less than detestable and abominable; as an odious name; odiousvice. 2. Offensive to the senses; disgusting; as an odious sight; an odious smell. 3. Causing hate; invidious; as, to utter odious truth. 4. Exposed to hatred. The truth is, a wicked tongue demonstrates that one has a toilet for a mouth which is the outlet for a septic sewer of a heart. O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. [35] A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. [36] But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. [37] For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. Matthew 12:34-37 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! [6] And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. [7] For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: [8] But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. James 3:5-8 In contrast, a godly woman, speaks with wisdom and kindness as noted in Proverbs 31 verse 26. Verses 10 through 31 are provided below in order to give the complete context as to what a godly woman looks like. Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. [11] The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. [12] She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. [13] She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. [14] She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. [15] She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. [16] She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. [17] She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. [18] She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. [19] She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. [20] She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. [21] She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. [22] She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. [23] Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. [24] She maketh fine linen, and selleth it ; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. [25] Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. [26] She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. [27] She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. [28] Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also , and he praiseth her. [29] Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. [30] Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord , she shall be praised. [31] Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
