History sadly repeats itself...

A lot of people today are very much like the Jews during Jesus time.

They would rather have Jesus fix their lives in this world over truly saving their souls.

Sure many will argue this but the compromises they make in this world negates their claims to the contrary.

Some Jews were exactly the same as they looked to Jesus to deliver them from the Romans. Saving them from their sins was either an afterthought or not a thought at all. They were more concerned about the temporal while Jesus' focus was on the eternal.

He ended up dying in this wretched world in order to free those who desired to be freed from sin and the evils of this world to be saved and thus to be able to spend eternity in heaven with their Father.

The good news is that while history in this sense has definitely repeated itself there were some during Jesus' time who chose not to follow the crowd but instead followed Jesus. We have the blessed opportunity in this life to do the same. We can choose to follow Jesus at all costs and with a focus only towards the Father in heaven. Just like the heroes of the faith mentioned in Hebrews 11, we know we have our real home is waiting for us some day. Just like Job when he said:

"For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me". Job 19:25-27

Question, do you worship the day? I guess the follow up qualifying question would be, are you a humanist who worships yourself? Seems...
