Fake news is a distortion of the truth or just flat out false.

A distortion of the truth to any degree is lying or bearing false witness if you will.

The consequences of lying in God's economy are tragic for those who partake in such nefarious activities.

A wise person who is submitted under the authority of their Creator will prove all things and thus abstain from all all appearances of evil and this definitely includes anything to do with the distortion of the truth.

In order to avoid tainting this message with my own words here are God's Words which are the definitive authority on the matter:

He that answereth a matter before he heareth it , it is folly and shame unto him. Proverbs 18:13

But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. [19] For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: [20] These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man. Matthew 15:18-20

A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue. Proverbs 17:4

Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness. Exodus 23:1

These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: [17] A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, [18] An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, [19] A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. Proverbs 6:16-19

The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar. Proverbs 19:22

A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape. [8] He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good. [9] A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish. Proverbs 19:5,8-9

Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour. Deuteronomy 5:20

Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. Ephesians 4:25

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Revelation 21:8

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. John 8:44

For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Romans 13:9

He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit. [18] There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health. [19] The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment. [20] Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy. [21] There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief. [22] Lying lips are abomination to the Lord : but they that deal truly are his delight. [23] A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness. Proverbs 12:17-23

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies. Proverbs 14:5

A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow. Proverbs 25:18

A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape. [9] A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish. Proverbs 19:5,9

A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly. Proverbs 21:28

The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies. [4] Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear; [5] Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely. [6] Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out the great teeth of the young lions, O Lord . [7] Let them melt away as waters which run continually: when he bendeth his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces. [8] As a snail which melteth, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun. [9] Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath. [10] The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. [11] So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth. Psalm 58:3-11

He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight. Psalm 101:7

Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they be all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men. [3] And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the Lord . [4] Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders. [5] And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity. [6] Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the Lord. Jeremiah 9:2-6

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. [22] Abstain from all appearance of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. Exodus 20:16
